What is a Bass Trap?
A bass trap is a type of acoustic treatment designed to absorb low-frequency sound waves, particularly bass frequencies that tend to build up in corners and along walls in a room.
Low-frequency sound waves are longer and more difficult to control than higher frequencies. In untreated rooms, these frequencies can create standing waves and resonances, causing uneven bass response where some notes sound louder or quieter than others.
Bass traps are typically placed in room corners, wall-to-ceiling edges, or other areas where bass energy accumulates. They are commonly used in recording studios, mixing rooms, and home studios to create a more balanced and accurate listening environment.
