What is a CC BY-SA?

CC BY-SA, short for Creative Commons Attribution–ShareAlike, is a Creative Commons license that allows people to use, share, and modify a work as long as they credit the original creator and distribute any new versions under the same license.

Under a CC BY-SA license, users are allowed to copy, distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the work, including for commercial purposes. However, they must give proper attribution to the original creator and release any derivative works using the same CC BY-SA license.

The “ShareAlike” requirement ensures that new creations based on the original work remain open and freely shareable under identical licensing terms. This license is commonly used for collaborative and open-content projects where creators want their work to remain freely accessible and modifiable by others.
