What is a Cue Sheet?

A cue sheet is a document that lists all the music used in a film, television show, video production, or other visual media project. It provides detailed information about each piece of music that appears in the production so that the proper copyright holders can be identified and paid.

A cue sheet typically includes information such as the title of the music, the composer or songwriter, the publisher, the duration of the music used, and the type of usage (such as background music, theme music, or featured music). It may also include the timing of when the music appears in the program.

Cue sheets are important because they allow performance rights organizations (PROs) to track when music is used in broadcasts and distribute performance royalties to the correct songwriters and publishers. Without accurate cue sheets, it would be difficult for music creators to receive proper credit and payment for the use of their work in media productions.
