What is a De-Hum?
A de-hum is an audio processing tool used to remove or reduce unwanted electrical hum from an audio recording. This type of noise often comes from power lines, grounding issues, or interference from electrical equipment.
Electrical hum typically occurs at specific frequencies, most commonly around 50 Hz or 60 Hz, depending on the power standard in a region. De-hum processors work by targeting and reducing these frequencies and their harmonics without significantly affecting the rest of the audio signal.
De-hum tools are commonly used in audio restoration, studio recording, broadcasting, and post-production to clean up recordings that contain electrical noise. By removing this interference, they help produce clearer and more professional-sounding audio.
