What is a Diffuser (Acoustics)?

An acoustic diffuser is a device used in room treatment to scatter sound waves in many directions instead of allowing them to reflect directly back into the room. This helps create a more balanced and natural acoustic environment.

Unlike absorptive materials that reduce sound energy, diffusers maintain the sound’s energy while breaking up strong reflections. This helps reduce echoes, flutter reflections, and harsh acoustic buildup without making the room sound overly dampened.

Diffusers are commonly used in recording studios, control rooms, home studios, and performance spaces. They are often installed on walls or ceilings to improve the sense of space and clarity in the room while maintaining a natural and open sound.
