What is a Half-Normalled Patchbay?
A half-normalled patchbay is a patchbay configuration where a default internal connection exists between an output and an input, but the connection is only partially interrupted when patch cables are used.
In a half-normalled setup, the signal from the top row output is normally routed to the bottom row input through an internal connection. If a patch cable is inserted into the bottom jack, the normal connection is broken and the signal is redirected.
However, inserting a cable into the top jack does not break the normal connection. Instead, it allows the signal to be tapped or split to another destination while still continuing to the original input. This makes half-normalled patchbays useful for signal splitting, routing flexibility, and studio workflows without interrupting the default signal path.
