What is a Hypercardioid Microphone?
A hypercardioid microphone is a directional microphone that uses a hypercardioid polar pattern, which captures sound primarily from the front while providing very strong rejection of sound from the sides.
The hypercardioid pattern is even narrower than a supercardioid pattern, allowing the microphone to focus tightly on a specific sound source. However, like other highly directional microphones, it also has a small pickup area directly behind the microphone.
Hypercardioid microphones are commonly used in live sound, stage performances, broadcasting, and film production where precise sound isolation is needed. Their focused pickup pattern helps capture a specific voice or instrument while minimizing surrounding noise.
