What is a Punch Out?
A punch out is the moment during a recording process when the system stops recording and returns to playback mode after a punch in. It marks the end of the section where new audio replaces part of an existing track.
When engineers perform a punch in, recording begins at a specific point in the timeline to overwrite a section of the track. The punch out point determines where the system stops recording so the rest of the original performance remains unchanged.
Punch outs are commonly used in studio recording and digital audio workstations to correct mistakes or re-record short sections of a performance. Together with punch ins, they allow precise editing and improvement of individual parts without requiring the entire track to be recorded again.
