What is a Sampler?

A sampler is an electronic musical device or software tool that records, stores, and plays back short pieces of audio called samples. These samples can be recordings of instruments, voices, sound effects, or any other sound. Once recorded into the sampler, the sounds can be triggered using a keyboard, drum pads, or a sequencer to create rhythms, melodies, and musical arrangements.

Samplers allow producers to manipulate recorded sounds in many ways. A sample can be sped up, slowed down, pitched higher or lower, looped, or chopped into smaller pieces.
