What is a Sampler (Hardware)?
A hardware sampler is an electronic musical instrument that records, stores, and plays back audio samples. These samples can include recordings of instruments, drum sounds, vocals, or any other type of audio, which can then be triggered and manipulated during music production or performance.
Hardware samplers allow users to load or record sounds and map them to keys, pads, or triggers. When activated, the sampler plays the stored audio sample. Many samplers also include controls for pitch, start and end points, looping, filters, envelopes, and effects, allowing musicians to transform and reshape the original sound.
Hardware samplers have played a major role in the development of many music genres, especially hip-hop, electronic music, and experimental production. They are often used to build drum kits, create melodic instruments from recorded sounds, and manipulate audio creatively in both studio and live performance settings.
