What is a Scratch Track?
A scratch track is a temporary recording made during a session to serve as a reference for timing, structure, and arrangement while other parts are recorded.
Scratch tracks often include rough performances such as a simple vocal, guitar, or piano part that outlines the song’s melody, chords, and timing. These recordings help other musicians follow the song’s structure during the recording process.
Scratch tracks are not intended to be part of the final mix. They are usually replaced later with higher-quality recordings once the main instruments and vocals have been properly tracked.
