What is a Session View?

Session View is a workflow layout used in certain digital audio workstations (DAWs), most notably Ableton Live, that allows musicians and producers to organize and trigger musical clips in a grid-based format. It is designed for experimenting with loops, building ideas, and performing music in real time.

In Session View, audio clips and MIDI clips are arranged in vertical tracks and horizontal scenes. Each clip can be launched independently or together with other clips in the same scene, allowing users to combine loops, beats, melodies, and samples dynamically.

This approach is especially useful for electronic music production and live performance because it allows musicians to improvise with musical elements, test different arrangements, and build songs gradually without following a fixed timeline.
