What is a Shock Mount?

A shock mount is a microphone accessory designed to isolate the microphone from physical vibrations and handling noise. It holds the microphone in a suspended frame using elastic bands, rubber supports, or flexible materials.

When a microphone is mounted directly to a stand, vibrations from footsteps, desk movements, or stand adjustments can travel through the stand and into the microphone. A shock mount absorbs these vibrations before they reach the microphone capsule.

Shock mounts are commonly used in recording studios, podcast setups, and voiceover environments. By reducing unwanted mechanical noise, they help ensure cleaner and more professional audio recordings.
