What is a Submix?
A submix is a mix created by combining several audio tracks into a single grouped signal before sending it to the main mix. It allows multiple related elements to be controlled together as one unit.
For example, all drum tracks, backing vocals, or guitar layers can be routed to a submix. Once grouped, the engineer can adjust the overall level, apply effects, or process the combined signal without needing to modify each individual track.
Submixes are commonly used in both recording studios and live sound systems to simplify complex mixes. They help organize large sessions and allow engineers to manage groups of sounds more efficiently within the overall mix.
