What is a Timecode CD?
A timecode CD is a special compact disc used in digital DJ systems to control digital music files within DJ software. Instead of containing music tracks, the CD contains a continuous timecode signal that the software can interpret.
When the timecode CD is played in a CD player or DJ media player, the signal is sent to DJ software through an audio interface or compatible mixer. The software reads the timecode information to determine the playback position, speed, and direction of the disc.
This allows DJs to control digital audio files using CD-based DJ equipment while still performing techniques such as scratching, cueing, and tempo adjustment. Timecode CDs are commonly used in Digital Vinyl Systems (DVS) setups when DJs prefer CD players instead of turntables.
