What is a Tremolo?

Tremolo is a musical technique that involves the rapid repetition of a single note or the quick alternation between two notes. This repeated motion creates a trembling or shimmering sound that adds intensity and texture to the music.

In written music, tremolo is often shown by one or more diagonal slashes across the stem of a note. These markings tell the performer to repeat the note very quickly or alternate rapidly between two pitches. On string instruments, tremolo can be produced by moving the bow back and forth quickly, while on instruments like guitar or mandolin it may be created by fast picking.
