What is an Imager Plugin?
An imager plugin is an audio processing tool used in digital audio workstations (DAWs) to control and shape the stereo image of a sound. It allows producers and engineers to adjust how audio is distributed between the left and right channels, influencing how wide, narrow, or centered a sound appears in a mix.
Imager plugins often include controls for stereo width, mid/side balance, and sometimes frequency-based widening, which allows different frequency ranges to have different stereo widths. For example, low frequencies may be kept centered while higher frequencies are spread wider across the stereo field.
These plugins are commonly used during mixing and mastering to create a more balanced and immersive soundstage. By adjusting the stereo image of instruments, vocals, and effects, an imager plugin can help improve clarity, separation, and spatial depth within a music mix.
