What is an Insert Effect?
An insert effect is an audio effect that is placed directly in the signal path of a track or channel so that the entire signal passes through the effect processor.
When an insert effect is used, the original signal leaves the channel, is fully processed by the effect, and then returns to the same point in the signal chain. This means the effect replaces or completely processes the signal, rather than blending with it.
Insert effects are commonly used for processors such as compressors, equalizers, noise gates, and distortion effects, where the entire signal needs to be shaped or controlled. They are widely used in both mixing consoles and digital audio workstations to process individual tracks.
