What is Chord Spacing?

Chord spacing refers to how the notes of a chord are distributed across different pitch ranges within the musical texture. Even though a chord may contain the same notes, the distance between those notes can change how the chord sounds.

In close spacing, the notes of the chord are placed as near to each other as possible, usually within a single octave. This produces a compact and dense harmonic sound. In open spacing, the notes are spread farther apart, often across multiple octaves, creating a wider and more spacious sound.
