What is Comping (Vocals)?
Vocal comping, short for composite recording, is the process of combining the best parts of multiple vocal takes into a single final performance.
During a recording session, a singer may record several takes of the same vocal line or song section. The producer or engineer then listens to each take and selects the strongest phrases, notes, or words from each performance.
These selected segments are assembled together to create a final vocal track that represents the best possible performance. Vocal comping is widely used in modern music production to achieve a polished and consistent vocal recording.
