What is Impedance?
Impedance is the resistance that an electrical circuit presents to the flow of an audio signal. In audio equipment, it describes how easily a signal can pass between devices such as microphones, instruments, cables, and amplifiers.
Impedance is measured in ohms (Ω) and plays an important role in ensuring proper signal transfer between connected audio components. For example, microphones, headphones, and speakers all have impedance ratings that affect how they interact with preamps, mixers, or amplifiers.
Matching or properly pairing impedance between devices helps maintain signal quality and efficiency. If impedance relationships are poorly matched, it can result in reduced signal strength, distortion, or changes in the tonal balance of the audio.
