What is Noise Music?
Noise music is an experimental music genre that focuses on sound textures, distortion, and nontraditional audio elements rather than conventional melody or harmony. The genre often uses harsh, chaotic, or abstract sounds as the main musical material.
Noise music can include sounds such as feedback, static, mechanical noise, electronic distortion, and heavily processed audio. These sounds are often layered and manipulated to create evolving textures, dynamic intensity, or immersive sonic environments.
Unlike many traditional music genres, noise music may not follow typical song structures or rhythms. Instead, the focus is on the exploration of sound itself, including volume, frequency, texture, and timbre. Artists may experiment with unconventional instruments, electronic equipment, or found objects to produce unique sonic results.
Noise music developed from experimental and avant-garde music scenes and has influenced genres such as industrial music and other forms of experimental electronic sound art. Modern producers and sound artists often create noise music using synthesizers, effects processors, and digital audio workstations such as Ableton Live, FL Studio, and Logic Pro to manipulate and sculpt raw sound textures.
