Harry Styles Reveals How He Shut Himself Off After Love On Tour to Reclaim Balance
Harry Styles explained in a March 9, 2026 interview on the Canadian‑exclusive Q With Tom Power podcast how he withdrew from the public eye after the conclusion of his 2023 Love On Tour. The singer said the break allowed him to confront personal pressures and return to music in a healthier place.
Love On Tour was the singer’s second global arena run, supporting his 2019 album Fine Line and his 2022 release Harry’s House. The tour began on September 4, 2021, and ended on July 22, 2023, in Reggio Emilia, Italy. It comprised 169 shows across seven legs, sold five million tickets, and grossed $617.3 million, making it one of the most successful post‑pandemic tours in North America and Europe.
After the final show, Styles described a quiet New Year’s period in Italy. He said, “I was supposed to spend New Year’s with friends and I landed in Italy and felt really unwell, so I just went home.” He added, “I was feeling the most alone I’d felt in a really long time, but in the most beautiful way. I didn’t feel lonely at all.” The singer explained that he had begun to say no to invitations, weekend trips and birthday parties, preferring to stay home for a week. He said, “I just got used to, you know, if I have a week at home, I don’t want to go somewhere else for three days. I just want to stay home.” In Italy, he realized, “I was just feeling myself kind of shut out from a lot of the world… I’m just going to shut myself off from the world.”
During the interview, Styles discussed the impact of public expectations on his mental well‑being. He said, “I had this relationship with my own image where people had this projected version of me that was perfect. And when the standard you hold yourself to is this perfect person, it’s impossible not to feel like you’re falling short.” He noted that shutting out negative attention also meant losing positive interactions, adding, “If you shut out those things that might be negative, you also shut out a ton of positive things.”
The singer emphasized that the period of isolation helped him face emotions he had avoided. He said, “Having time to sit at home and be bored and really look at the emotions I was feeling allowed me to lean into them instead of being afraid of them. And it means I’m now in a much healthier place than I was last time I was putting music out.” Styles, who is reportedly engaged to actress Zoe Kravitz, framed the break as a necessary reset before returning to the public stage.
Styles released his fourth studio album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, on March 6, 2026. The dance‑pop record produced singles “Aperture” and “American Girls,” both of which entered the top five of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. He is currently touring on the Together, Together tour, which began on May 16, 2026, in Amsterdam and will conclude on December 13, 2026, in Sydney. The tour features 68 shows, including a 30‑night residency at Madison Square Garden.
The interview highlights how a high‑profile artist can use a deliberate hiatus to manage the psychological demands of touring and public scrutiny. It also underscores the importance of personal boundaries for creative sustainability in the contemporary music industry.
