Logan Edwards Releases Debut Solo EP Belong to Someone Else and Announces Nationwide Tour
Logan Edwards, a former guitarist and drummer for Christchurch‑based bands The Beatniks, Ani Saafa and Chump Change, released his first solo EP, Belong to Someone Else, on 19 June 2026. The EP was issued alongside the focus track “Half Asleep”, and the following day the artist shared a visualiser for the song, shot by Lily Knowles.
The EP blends alt‑pop, indie rock and soft‑edged folk. Edwards described the work as a reflection of a period of untethering. The songs were written and recorded in a single month after a creative burst in November 2025. The recording process was intentionally lo‑fi; “Half Asleep” was captured live‑to‑tape on an old tape machine with a 1960s talkback microphone, and the track was recorded in one take with all its imperfections preserved.
Prior to the EP’s release, Edwards had issued two singles that charted on New Zealand’s Official Hot 20 Aotearoa Singles chart. “Isla” reached number 1 on the SRN charts and entered the top 5 on the Radioscope Alt chart, while “Worry” also entered the Hot 20. The EP’s bonus track “Half Asleep” was added because of its intimate, vulnerable character, which Edwards felt set it apart from the rest of the record.
To promote the EP, Edwards will tour New Zealand in July 2026 with a full band. The tour will feature Emily Esplin, an alt‑rock and indie artist from Ōtepoti (Dunedin), as a touring partner. The six‑date run will begin on 9 July in Wānaka and finish on 24 July in Auckland. Ticket sales are handled by Under The Radar. The dates are:
9 July – Rhyme X Reason, Wānaka 10 July – Yonder, Tāhuna/Queenstown 17 July – Space Academy, Ōtautahi/Christchurch 18 July – Pearl Diver, Ōtepoti/Dunedin 23 July – San Fran, Pōneke/Wellington 24 July – Big Fan, Tāmaki Makaura/Auckland
The tour will feature performances of the EP’s tracks, songs that inspired the record, and excerpts from Edwards’ earlier band work.
The release and tour are part of Edwards’ transition from band member to solo artist. In interviews, he has said that he had never intended to pursue a solo career, but the November 2025 songwriting burst prompted a new direction. The EP’s lo‑fi aesthetic and live‑to‑tape production reflect Edwards’ desire to capture a raw, authentic sound.
The visualiser for “Half Asleep” was released on 30 June 2026. Lily Knowles, a photographer and visual artist, shot the piece, which accompanies the track’s gentle guitar and melancholic violin arrangement.
The EP’s release was covered by several New Zealand music outlets, including The Label, MusicNews, and ArtistDirect. The coverage highlighted Edwards’ chart success with “Isla” and “Worry”, the EP’s genre‑blending style, and the upcoming tour. The EP’s launch is seen as a significant milestone in Edwards’ career, marking his emergence as a solo songwriter in the Aotearoa music scene.
The EP and tour are scheduled to run through July 2026, with the final show on 24 July in Auckland. Fans can purchase tickets through Under The Radar and follow Edwards on Instagram, TikTok and Facebook for updates.
The EP’s release and tour are expected to strengthen Edwards’ profile in New Zealand’s indie music community and provide a platform for his songwriting and performance skills developed during his time with The Beatniks, Ani Saafa and Chump Change.
